The Twelve Disciples

 

 

Simon Peter ~ The Rock

 

Simon Peter  was a fisherman when Jesus called on him to serve as His disciple.  After the death of Christ, he continued to be an evangelist and missionary until crucified, head downward.

 

 

 

 

 

James ~ The Elder

 

James was also a fisherman before becoming a disciple.  After the death of Christ, he preached in Jerusalem and Judea, until he was beheaded by Herod.

 

 

 

 

 

John 

The Beloved

 

After the death of Christ,  John  labored among the churches until he died a natural death.  He is most well known for writing the Books in the Bible referred to as The Gospel of John......1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Revelation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Andrew 

 

Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter and was also a fisherman before becoming a disciple.  After the death of Christ, he continued to minister in Scythia, Greece and Asia Minor, until he was crucified.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Philip 

 

After the death of Christ, Philip preached in Phygia and died a martyr.

 

 

 

 

 

Thomas 

 

After the death of Christ, Thomas continued to preach.  While ministering in Calamina, a city in India, he was slain by a dart thrown by an assassin.

 

 

 

 

 

Bartholomew 

 

After the death of Christ, Bartholomew preached to the Indians and translated the Gospel of St. Matthew into their language.  After being persecuted in Albinopolis, he was beaten down with sticks, crucified, and after removing the skin from his body, beheaded. 

 

 

 

 

 

Matthew 

 

Before becoming a disciple, Matthew was a tax collector.  He is best known for writing the Gospel of Matthew.  After the death of Christ, he died a martyr in Ethiopia.

 

 

 

 

 

James 

The Younger

 

James  wrote the Letters of James in the Bible.  After the death of Christ, he preached in Palestine and Egypt, and was eventually crucified in Egypt.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jude 

 After the death of Christ, Jude wrote the Book of Jude and  preached in Assyria and Persia.  He died a martyr in Persia.

 

 

 

 

 

Simon 

 

After the death of Christ, Simon became the Bishop of Jerusalem, and was eventually  crucified in Egypt. 

 

 

 

 

Judas 

Judas was the disciple who betrayed Christ then hung himself.  His name is mentioned here not to honor him, but because he was one of the Twelve Disciples.
